2018 Manga List

Even though anime was the first thing that introduced me to Japanese media, the internet was really the one that deepened my fascination. As soon as the internet took traction, I was introduced to many things like AMV, anime themed blogs and of course, manga. I’ve been reading them since my introduction and without further ado, here’s my 2018 Manga list that I am currently checking out.

Tales of Demons and Gods

Tales of Demons and Gods

This was a new addition to my reading list, it has been ongoing for some time now but I normally avoid manga with colors. Tales of Demons and Gods is an ongoing Chinese fantasy manga written by Mad Snail. The story is about Nei Lie who ended up dying in the distant future from battle but when he died, his consciousness was transferred back to his 13 year old body. With the knowledge he gained in hundreds of years, he seeks to change the upcoming future.

At first glance, this looks like some weird Naruto knock off only in designs. The protagonist and story is more interesting in my opinion while both stories share an underlying mature theme in them. Overall, the manga is still ongoing and the pace is well done so no boring arcs.

Ubel Blatt
Ubel Blatt

Ubel Blatt is an ongoing Japanese fantasy manga. Many years after the great war, a young boy named Koinzell shows up and started taking action against evil doers. The twist though is that he’s really the country’s greatest swordsman, Ascheritt, who was betrayed by his comrades in the previous war. They now all reap the rewards of their betrayal while Ascheriit and his group was turned into traitors.

Now named Koinzell, he sets to exact revenge on all of them,
If you like medieval fantasy like settings, this manga is for you. This is if Lord Of The Rings had a love child with Reservoir Dogs, some totally grimey fantasy anime. Even with Berserk, while Griffiths eventual betrayal is dirty as fuck – it still had a gloss of sparkle in it.
Ubel Blatt has none of that.
Until Death Do Us Part
Until Death Do Us Part

Until Death Do Us Part is a Japanese action noir manga, it stars Hijikata Mamoru and Tohyama Haruka. Even though the manga is set in the modern setting, this is a martial arts manga – think Lone Wolf & Cub but in modern Tokyo. Mamoru is a bad ass and Haruka is cute and always needs to be saved.

You can’t go wrong reading this one.

Hinomaru Zumou
Hinomaru Zumou

Hinomaru Zumou is a Japanese martials arts manga. If you can’t tell, this is all about sumo. Hinomaru wants to become the greatest Yokozuna ever but his small stature is holding him back. After years of training, he came back to the sumo world to achieve want he wanted.

I just love martial arts manga and I was so interested when they released a sumo manga. I mean what can I learn from this but I was really surprised of the depth of Sumo.

Historys Strongest Disciple Kenichi

Historys Strongest Desciple Kenichi

Historys Strongest Disciple Kenichi is a Japanese martial arts manga. The manga is about Kenichi who was a weakling and was being bullied. He eventually met Mio and after a couple of unfortunate events, he became the disciple of the masters of Ryouzanpaku. Ryouzanpaku is a martial arts groups composing of various martial art masters who took Kenichi as their disciple. He became steeped in the world of martial arts and everything that came with it.

Do I need to even say anything as to why I like this manga?

Overall, this is the first part of my list. If you can’t tell, I love my action and martial arts manga. This is true in real life as I am a martial arts junkie as well. I do love the competition. Stay tuned.
