My Top 2017 Anime
2018 is almost upon us so my Top 2017 Anime list is a go.
Of course, this is purely subjective and in my own opinion but let me provide you with some comments. Hopefully, if you haven’t seen any of the ones on my list, then check it out. If you’ve seen everything on my list, then you have good taste.
Berserk 2nd Season
I am one of the biggest Berserk fans out there. I can talk about how great the quality and the story of this anime but a little blurb wouldn’t do it justice. With that said, I was so glad that they started animating the next arc of this great masterpiece. I was initially thrown off by the style of animation they used and during the first season. There were some weird technical choices they worked with but this 2nd season, they polished off most of it.
Berserk is a prime example of a shonen anime masterpiece, please check it out and enjoy it.
Boku no Hero Academia: 2nd Season
Boku No Hero Academia seems to be just another shonen superhero anime but it was surprising on how deep of a story is being told. There’s a lot of emphasis on character studies and a subtle mature content matter, which is surprising for an anime whose main target is kids. It’s like the way Narutos’ storytelling was way deeper and mature than it should’ve been.
I look forward to where they bring this anime to.
Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism
Another shonen anime that surprised me. I like watching standard shonen anime, not just the intellectual ones, and this anime was satisfying.
I found this anime months later its’ release. I was checking out animes that I missed and the fighting looked interesting so I ended up watching it. The challenges and fighting were clean and thought out; the animation, music, and characters were above the standard fare. All the things you ask for in a shonen anime.
Another light novel adapted into an anime. A modern Japanese atheist dies and meets God, who reincarnates him to an alternate Earth as a female soldier. The animation, fighting, and character designed were top notch. The character and her motivation and skills are what really drives this anime towards the top.
Shokugeki no Souma: 3rd Season
Who doesn’t like battle manga? Who doesn’t like food?
Shokugeki no Soma has all of it and that’s why I’m still watching it. Great characters design & backstories’, music does its part and animation does well in showing how the battle is.
There was a lot of animes out that might not have made the list. Some anime I probably didn’t watch and some I didn’t think should merit being included in the list. However, some I didn’t include because I just didn’t think they were good enough in the context of the list or I didn’t think they fit. With that said, here are some anime’s that I think were good but didn’t make the list.
I <3 this anime (and the manga). For a slice of life anime about music, it’s well done. The best part about it is the characters, the story itself is standard but the character motivation is what really pushes it forward.
BLAME! The Movie
I didn’t even know that this manga was going to be animated but it does the source material justice. If you like the post-apocalyptic cyberpunk genre, this is your slice of peanut butter and jelly.
Masamune-kun no Revenge
Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records
Granblue Fantasy The Animation
Ballroom e Youkoso
2017 was a little so/so for me but as always, I’m hoping the future and 2018 will remedy that. If I missed any animes that you think should’ve been on the list, or I should give a certain anime a chance – feel free to let me know down the comments.
Looking forward to new things as well over here, have a safe and happy 2017 – see you in 2018
